Graded By Nature

You may wonder how we come up with all of the different flavours (or grades)… Though we would love to take credit, the colour changes from Golden to Very Dark as the season warms up. This contributes to the more robust flavours.

We Cook With Wood

We use 100% wood to cook our maple sap down to maple syrup. Considering how much wood we have in our bush, we prefer using the old time method over propane, natural gas, oil, or electricity

Pure Maple Syrup From Our Family Run Sugar Bush

John Wagler grew up in the sugar bush with his brother David. They learned about the magic of maple syrup from their dad Norman & grandfather Amos, making John the 3rd generation in his family to cook Maple Syrup.

But it doesn’t stop there. With the intention of passing the skills & wisdom down through his family, John & his wife Jeneve included their sons into the Sand Hills Maple Products venture in 2018 when they made the business official.

They’ve been producing Maple Syrup together since 2003 with 17 acres of hardwood maple bush and have approximately 1600 taps.

Their trees usually average 1.5 litres of syrup per tap. They use a Reverse Osmosis system to take some of the water out of the sap, which helps speed up the cooking process.

The Wagler Family really enjoy their time together in the sugar bush. They appreciate all of the help they get from the family when it comes to tapping the trees and checking the pipeline before they start cooking.

All of the Waglers get involved in the process! Even the grandchildren get excited when they help collect sap from the pails.

Everyone is rewarded when it is time to sample the fresh syrup off of the evaporator.

The Waglers enjoy their syrup in coffee, and they especially like dunking fresh doughnuts in it too.
